'Out at Coffee' on

4th October 2025

It’s always great to receive recommendations from other coffee enthusiasts. So, I’d like to start this week’s escapades with a huge ‘shout out’ to Anne M, for her suggestion - ‘Q Roasters’ in Stafford.

The café has a rustic feel, and is located in an industrial area, enjoying a great position right by; Bilston Street Park, Grange Forest Park, Kedron Brook, and the bikeway. And there’s plenty of street parking close by too!

The Owners are passionate about their craft, and the coffee they source is produced with social, economic, and environmental sustainability in mind. And for all those aspiring caffeine experts out there, ‘Q Grade’ is an internationally recognised coffee bean score … hence the ‘Q’ in ‘Q Roasters!

Recently, I’d made a concerted effort to fine tune my early morning routine, so we wouldn’t be late for coffee. For a few months it had worked, but sadly this week I failed miserably!

My grooming got the better of me, and by the time I’d woken, exercised, finished my ablutions, blown dry my hair, and taken my heart meds… Stephen and I were racing out the door 15 mins late!

Stephen, who'd patiently waited for me to get ready, had pre-warned, Lee, Pete, and Steve, of our late departure … and all I can say in my defence; it’d been one of those mornings where my mind was oh so busy in La-La Land!

To fill in time, the guys decided to take Coco for a pre-coffee amble along the river. And it’s lucky they did, because they helped a lady who had fallen off her bike.

She’d swerved to avoid a snake crossing the path… now that’s a situation you can only experience in certain parts of the World.

And for all you conservationists out there, I’d like to reassure you that no wildlife was harmed in the writing of this blog… she thankfully missed the slippery critter, and while shaken, she was uninjured!

The guys had just got back to Q Roasters, when we finally rocked up, so we all head to the outside area to grab a table.

No seating fitted the bill, so we started to re-arrange the furniture, which caused a bit of a kerfuffle.

It prompted the owner to walk over and ask; “Are you all settled?” … to which we respond sheepishly; “Yes, thank you so much!”

Our delayed start and the guys’ heroics meant these seagulls were in desperate need of nourishment. So, we head straight inside to order from the wholesome, freshly baked items on offer.

And it’s not long before our goodies appear and this flock of birds’ swoop in; Lee and Pete, tucked in to a chunk of ‘coconut rough’, while Stephen and I shared avocado on toast! Steve refrained from eating anything, but he enjoyed a hot beverage. And yes, the food and coffees were definitely worth ‘queuing’ for!

After coffee, we decided to explore more of this beautiful area, and as we strolled along the brook, we continued chatting about work, family, and the state of World affairs.

We watched in awe at Tilapia freshwater fish protecting their nesting circles in the bottom of the riverbed … Stephen and I ignorant to the fact they’re seen as invasive waterway pests, who’ll attack other species of fish to protect their territory.

This morning’s coffee was excellent and our walk idyllic, but sadly, it had to come to an end, and we bid our farewells.

As I reflected on my stressful morning. I Initially, felt huge angst for being late. But I made a conscious decision to put the brakes on that cycle of negative thinking.

And once I was able to look at things from a different perspective, I realised there’d been a silver-lining! … If I’d been punctual, then the guys wouldn’t have rescued the cyclist, and she may have struggled to get back on the saddle.

So, you could say things happen for a reason … oh how the universe can work in mysterious ways!

So, next time you find your thoughts hurtling out of control, take a few deep breaths, ease the grip on your mental handlebars, and if you can give your mind the space to free-wheel, reframe the chain of events ... you may just find a brighter view point!
