A Great Pour of Caffeinated; Fun, Friendship & Laughter!
Our coffee group’s special! We’re accepting, diverse and quirky! But above all, we laugh and have fun, as we chat each week over coffee!
This sense of belonging and community with likeminded people was alien to me when I first came out in my early forties! I struggled for years trying to understand what being gay really meant. Then I met my partner Stephen in 2015 and he introduced me to his friends, who’d been meeting up regularly for coffee for years. Back then, the ‘Coffee Guy’ in Wooloowin was a favourite haunt for their caffeine fix, although from what I can gather, coffee wasn’t the only thing that got their hearts racing… the café owner had something to do with it too!
When I first joined the group out at coffee, I realised I had found my tribe. And meeting up weekly has become an integral part of my life.
This permanent fixture in our social calendars, is usually a new café venue each week, which adds an element of the unknown to our weekends, and one we only miss due to holiday, work commitments or illness.
There’s a famous saying; ‘You can’t choose your family, but you can choose your friends’.
I want to put my own, caffeinated slant on that and say; ‘You can’t choose your family, but you can choose who you enjoy coffee with!’
Life’s busy! Life’s short! But it’s also about having fun and connecting! That’s why it’s important to be part of something that embodies who you are and allows you to flourish into the unique, wonderful person you are.
So, if you don’t already, I encourage you to catch up, ‘Out at Coffee’, with your friends, family or work colleagues. Connect with people you want to share time with and spread a little; fun, friendship and laughter over coffee...
… and if you don’t have anyone you want to enjoy coffee with, be spontaneous, reach out to someone and invite them! It may just be the best thing you could do for yourself and them.
I’m going to share regular extracts from my coffee group's escapades and if you’re interested in hearing what we get up to, then please like, follow and share the Facebook page. And if you have any suggestions for a great coffee venue in the Brisbane area, please Contact us, we’d love to add it to our caffeine calendar.
